For roughly two decades Wren has been practicing and teaching art, yoga and mindfulness meditation. Her formal education includes an MA in Counseling Psychology from the Wright Institute, graduate study in Contemplative Psychology and Art at Naropa University, and a BA in Studio Art from Scripps College. Wren has worked as an artist and educator for various establishments including: the Museum(s) of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, San Diego, La Jolla, and Boulder, Colorado and the Museum of Children’s Art in Oakland, CA, in addition to many public and private schools throughout California.
Her personal practice is central to her life. She has resided at two rural spiritual retreat centers: Shambhala Mountain Center and Mount Madonna. She has sat a month-long silent retreat with Acharya Reggie Ray in addition to many other extended residential retreats with revered teachers such as Acharya Pema Chodron, Shinzen Young, and Thich Nhat Hanh. One retreat she participated in involved bearing witness to homelessness, meditating and sleeping on the streets of downtown Denver for a week with former prisoner Sensi Fleet Maull. As a meditation facilitator she has offered services in hospitals, yoga teacher trainings, and community centers. Wren completed her teaching certification over a decade ago at Piedmont Yoga, Oakland with Richard Rosen, Dr. Baxter Bell, and Ann Dyer. As a yoga instructor, she creates a gentle yet rigorous contemplative environment for students to explore and gain insight into body, mind and world. She continues to teach privately and maintains her meditation training with her original vipassana teacher, Shinzen Young.
Recently, Wren has had the honor of illustrating several books for Shambhala Publications: "The Awakening Body" by Reginald Ray, "The Fourth Trimester" by Kimberly Ann Johnson, "Hip-Healthy Asana" by Charlotte Bell, and "Conceiving with Love" by Denise Weisner. She is currently exhibiting her art and illustrating an upcoming book by the highly respected yoga expert, Judith Hanson-Lasater. Wren is married to a traditional Irish fiddling certified cheese expert and is a devoted mother of two busy little boys.
